How To Clean White Sneakers

5/9/2023

When wearing your favourite kicks all year round, they’re bound to get dirty. Lucky for you, we know the perfect tips and tricks to keep your white sneakers, well, white.

There’s a reason why everyone has a pair of white sneakers, they’re super comfy, practical and versatile. Whether you’ve invested in the perfect pair of white leather sneakers or an entire wardrobe, you can keep them looking like new with these quick, easy steps.

Protect Them Before Wearing

Protect them straight out of the box with a waterproofing spray. Maintain the natural beauty of the material by protecting them from water, stains and dirt. Lightly spray with the Eco Water & Stain Protector at a 20cm distance and allow to dry.

Clean Them Regularly

Prevent grime and dirt from building up by cleaning them regularly. Simply use a damp cloth to wipe away any dirt and scuffs, or use a gentler cleanser like our Shoe Shampoo. With a clean cloth, spray over the shoes and wipe with a clean polishing cloth. Allow them to dry before moving on to the next step.

Hydrate The Leather

After a good clean, it’s important to nourish the leather to prevent it from drying out. We recommend using the Bared Leather Care Conditioner to keep your leather sneakers moistured. Apply sparingly with a clean cloth to leather uppers and let them dry.

Use A Whitener

Magic in a bottle, use a shoe whitener for those particularly stubborn marks and stains that won’t go away. Effectively reviving and restoring your white sneakers, this is the perfect product for keeping your well-loved kicks clean and fresh. To use the White Shoe Restorer, start with freshly cleaned shoes and give the bottle a good shake before applying. Gently press the sponge applicator down on the problem area then allow to dry.

Now that your sneakers are back to a clean white, for optimum protection, seal them in with the Eco Water and Stain Protector. Protect your leather sneakers from the elements so you can go about your day in your bright white kicks.

When you’re not wearing them, store them in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent any discolouration.

Things To Avoid
Things To Avoid

Try to avoid wearing your white sneakers in bad weather. Particularly rainy or muddy conditions can cause dirt and stains to set in.

Don’t put them in the washing machine! Leather sneakers should never be put in the washing machine. Period.

Cleaning Laces

Don’t forget the laces! Fresh, clean laces can make a noticeable difference to your kicks and it’s super easy to clean them. Simply pop them in a wash bag and wash them in the washing machine on a gentle cycle. Voila!

Cleaning Non-Leather Sneakers

Not all sneakers are leather, so it’s important to know what material your sneaker is so you can take care of them properly. For example, The Jinzo White Knit Sneakers are made from recycled plastic bottles (rPET). Our latest sneaker style, Saker, is crafted with a ripstop upper made from GRS-certified recycled polyester and nubuck from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries.

Cleaning these materials is a little different than cleaning leather but still just as easy. Trust us!

Knit And Ripstop Uppers

Before stepping out in your new knitted or ripstop sneakers, we recommend misting them at a distance with a waterproofing spray to protect against the elements.

To clean any marks from the knitted upper, use a soft-bristled brush or clean cloth to brush away (gently!) any dirt. Just be careful not to rub any dirt into the fabric. Use a damp cloth with a small amount of wool wash to blot away any stains and pat with a cool, damp cloth to remove any soap residue. Finally, mist with a waterproofing spray for ultimate protection.

By following these easy steps, you can keep your kicks looking fresh and extend their lifespan.
