Kicks With An Impact: Noddy Weetra Dot Sneaker

    7/2/2020

We first met Indigenous contemporary artist, Christinaray Weetra (otherwise known as Chrissy!) last year, and we were instantly blown away by her bold-coloured and intricate artwork. When we discovered her passion to give back to the community, we knew we had a shoe in the making.

We’d like you to meet the ‘Noddy Weetra Dot’!’ An iconic high-top style showcasing Chrissy’s detailed artwork, offset by white leather panelling and soft pastel features, there’s more to these high-top kicks than meets the eye.

For every sneaker sold, $50 will be donated to Children’s Ground, an organisation dedicated to empowering First Nations children and families in communities surrounding Alice Springs, Darwin and West Arnhem Land.

Guided by local Elders, Children’s Ground’s learning and wellbeing platform is the first of its kind in Australia, focusing on areas fundamental to life-long wellbeing to create places of safety and inclusion. It is innovative, simple and designed to create a different future for the next generation of Aboriginal children.

“Our goal is that all our children and families have the same opportunities that every other child or person their age in Australia has. That they’re educated, well-grounded, and they feel like they belong and are connected to their country,” says Angee Ross, Children’s Ground.

Growing up in an unstable environment, Chrissy has faced her own difficulties as an Aboriginal woman. The self-taught artist of the Warumungu and Arrernte tribes found her feet through painting, inspiring her to connect with her culture and change her path.

Determined to help children who face similar disadvantages, Chrissy is dedicated to giving back to those in need.

Chrissy describes the piece as inspired by community: “I believe we are all connected, in people, land and sea, no matter how different we are. Each dot is unique and represents every one of us coming together.”

In the spirit of community, the original commissioned artwork is available for auction, once sold, Bared will match the final price and donate all proceeds to Children’s Ground.

Join us on our journey to empower our First Nations peoples. Help us support this incredible cause, and donate what you can – every little bit counts.
