Our B Corp Re-Certification & Why It Matters

1/22/2026

We’re proud to be the first Australian owned footwear label to be re-certified as a B Corp - proving progress is possible, but the work is far from done.

Doing better isn’t a moment. It’s a mindset.

Doing better isn’t a moment. It’s a mindset

We’ve officially been re-certified as a B Corp with our Impact Score increasing from 95 in 2021 to 126.7 in 2025. To put that in simple terms, a score of 80 is required to achieve certification. This is something we are incredibly proud of because it represents real change behind the scenes. But we are under no illusion that this means we are finished. No footwear company is truly sustainable. What matters is momentum, accountability and action, and B Corp gives us a framework to keep improving as the standards rise. What matters to us more than the number itself is what sits behind it. B Corp is designed to get harder over time. Stan`dards evolve, expectations rise and recertification requires meaningful progress, not just good intentions. Going through the process again has challenged us to look closely at how we operate and where we still need to do better.

Progress, measured

From the beginning, we’ve believed that responsibility should be built into the way we do business rather than added on later. B Corp gives us a framework to measure that belief in practice. It looks at how we treat our people, how we work with our suppliers, how decisions are made at a governance level and how our products show up in the world. The increase in our score reflects years of work across ethical manufacturing partnerships, responsible materials, transparent governance and employee wellbeing. Much of this happens quietly, behind the scenes, but it shapes everything we create.

Sustainability is a mindset

Re-certifying has also been a useful reminder that no footwear company is ever finished when it comes to sustainability. Shoes are complex products and fashion will always have an environmental footprint. We don’t see B Corp as proof that we’ve solved these challenges. We see it as a commitment to keep asking better questions, setting clearer targets and being accountable for progress over time. For us, the value lies in the process as much as the outcome.

Innovation from every angle.

Innovation from every angle

Comfort, design and responsibility have always been central to how we think about footwear. We’ve never believed these ideas need to compete with each other. Instead, we focus on finding smarter ways to bring them together, often through material innovation and thoughtful construction.

The proof is in the product

The proof is in the product

Our new Surfbird Ballet Flat in Suede and Hardware is a good example of this approach. It features the Tunera footbed by Natural Fibre Welding, a first in kind plastic free foam with both performance and circularity in mind. Made using plant based inputs and advanced engineering, Tunera provides cushioning and support while moving away from traditional fossil fuel heavy foams. In wear, it simply feels comfortable and supportive, which is exactly the point. Innovation should improve how a shoe feels on the foot as much as how it performs on paper.

PLIANT - made to move, and last. Img

PLIANT - made to move, and last

The same thinking applies to our Pliant outsoles - the world’s first 100% bio-based outsole. Designed to flex naturally with the foot, they’re built for durability, grip and everyday comfort. You’ll find Pliant outsoles across over half of our range in some of our most loved styles, including our Syma Sandals, Towhee Heels, Amakihi Sneakers, Owl Loafers and so much more. These are shoes made to be worn often and for a long time, because longevity is one of the most practical ways we can reduce impact.

Longevity is a sustainability strategy

Going through B Corp recertification has helped sharpen our focus on what comes next. It encourages us to keep improving our systems, to deepen relationships with our manufacturing partners and to continue exploring more responsible materials as they become available. It also reinforces the importance of transparency, both internally and with our community. Accountability works best when it’s ongoing and independently measured.

Looking forward, always

We don’t see B Corp as an endpoint or a badge to rest on. For us, it’s a structure that supports long term thinking and continuous improvement. It keeps us honest about where we are and clear about where we want to go. As the standards evolve, so will we.
