Reflections from the B Corp Assembly: Purpose, Polarity, and the Power of Collective Change
It was an experience that moved me deeply, both personally and professionally, and I want to share a few reflections on what I took away from it.
As a personal note, I have always grappled with the dichotomy of working in an industry that is not essential, for-profit and destructive by nature. Events like the Assembly create a space where this polarity can be openly explored, challenged and supported for the greater good.
The product industry is not going anywhere; it just needs to be better.
The Assembly ran over three days in the stunning Craigieburn Valley, bringing together like-minded businesses for rich, open conversations. Imagine school camp meets TEDx meets the most inspiring conference you’ve ever been to.
Purpose In Practice
The Assembly was a powerful reminder of what it truly means to be part of an impact-driven community. To stand alongside businesses that balance purpose and profit was grounding and energising. The energy in the room was contagious. Every conversation came back to one idea: when business is led by values, its influence reaches far beyond its products or services. Being a B Corp isn’t just about certification. It’s about accountability, community and a shared belief that business can be a force for good.
Conversations That Challenge
I spent much of my time in The Roundhouse, a space designed for open, often uncomfortable dialogue. People were brave enough to question assumptions, challenge each other’s views and unpack what real systemic change requires. One discussion that stayed with me was titled “We can’t shift the system alone: reimagining the B Corp model for collective action.”
The mix of voices was extraordinary - a fashion brand confronting production challenges, a communications strategist reframing public narrative and a policy expert explaining how legislation can drive transformation.
It was one of those rare conversations that stays with you, reminding you that true change happens when we step beyond our silos and begin to build solutions together.
Learning From The Collective
Across the three days, I was struck by how much there is to learn from industries far removed from our own. Listening to people from fashion, finance, agriculture and activism expanded my perspective on the system our business exists within. Athena from Dissh spoke with conviction about the need for an entire system to rally behind those working for change. Leading with transparency and courage in an industry that faces constant scrutiny isn’t easy. But that is where transformation begins. And then there was Ruby Rodgers - young, talented and endlessly hopeful. Hearing her speak and sing about designing the future she wants to inherit was humbling and uplifting all at once.

Reconnecting With Nature
Camping in the Craigieburn Valley was the perfect balance to the intensity of the discussions. Immersed in nature and surrounded by people who share the same values, I was reminded why we do this work - not just to sustain business, but to sustain life.
The stillness of the valley recentred me on purpose. It reminded me that sustainability is not a goal we achieve once, but a daily practice that keeps us connected to the systems we depend on.
Moving Forward Together
I left feeling inspired and challenged to think bigger, act braver and collaborate more intentionally. The Assembly was living proof of what happens when purpose-led people come together: ideas spark, partnerships form and hope takes shape.
We cannot shift the system alone, but together, with courage and commitment - we can reshape it entirely.
