The Five Places You Need To Visit In Australia

5/6/2020

With party plans on hold and celebrations cancelled, our thoughts are with those who missed out in ISO. We may not be able to venture out just yet, we thought we'd inspire you for when we can finally explore!

While international travel isn’t on the cards for a while, we turned to our big backyard. Discover our top five places to visit in Australia.

1. Byron Beach Abodes – The Cabin

Sleeps: 4 guests

Escape the hustle and bustle, and unwind at one of Byron Beach Abodes’ well-renowned properties. A family-run string of boutique dwellings emphasizing simplicity and luxury, each with its own unique spin and home away from home feel.

Our all-time fave is ‘The Cabin’, a Nordic-inspired oasis fitted with ceiling-high windows to bring the outdoors in. Just a 5-minute stroll from town, Byron’s iconic main beach and cafes – you’ll find every excuse to extend your stay.

2. Kimo Estate Eco Huts – Sweeney’s Ecohut

Sleeps: 2 guests

Completely off-grid and designed to let you switch off from your busy lifestyle – the luxury eco huts at Kimo Estate are a little slice of paradise. Sitting high on the hilltops overlooking the Murrumbidgee River flats, each hut sits kilometres apart.

The highest hut of them all, Sweeney’s Hut is our top pick. Defined by its bold timber panelling and classic A-frame shape, it’s sustainably-sourced structure is made to stand out, yet complement its farmland surroundings. If it’s not the breath-taking views that sells you, let it be the wood-fired hot tub just a few steps from your front door.

3. The Wensley

Sleeps: 10 (plus one child!)

Situated in a secluded pocket of The Surf Coast Hinterland, you'll find a refined barn-like haven sitting on 80 acres of rural farmland. Just a short 1.5-hour drive out of Melbourne, this rustic yet elegant structure is one to remember.

Slow down, eat and drink by the fire, or explore the property in all it's glory, we hear there's old dirt bike riding tracks you can wander, you can even jump the back fence into the state forest.

4. The Little Black Shack

Sleeps: 4

A former fisherman's cottage restored into a beautiful, secluded beach and bush hideaway is The Little Black Shack. Don't let its name fool you, surrounded by native coastal gardens and shaded by huge 70-year-old Frangipani trees, this shack is more than just that.

Just like its rustic exterior, inside features recycled and handmade furniture made up of antiques and collectables gathered from around the world. Perfectly positioned so you can watch the sunrise over Palm Beach, take out the provided kayaks and snorkelling gear, or if you're like us, appreciate the fully stocked gourmet pantry for all the basics, and a herb garden to pick herbs of your choice.

5. Mount Ophir Estate - The Tower

Sleeps: 2

A refurbished 140-acre winemaking facility turned luxury accommodation, Mount Ophir Estate will give you a taste of Australia's wine history, 115 years after its construction. With a handful of houses on the property, the estate sleeps up to 42 people with a lucky two residing in The Tower.

Defined by its French provincial vibe and spiral staircase cascading through the three-story structure, this standout stay is an experience in itself. Enter via the dining room, and make your way up through the living area to the top floor, a luxurious bedroom with 360 views of the surrounding estate, and a place you can watch the sunset from the comfort of your bed.
