We understand the simplest ways to make a difference in daily life.
Our entire team is engaged in a war on waste – we make sure we use the correct bins for recycling and organic matter, and we would never buy disposable coffee cups!
Our coffee cup story
Bared’s sustainability journey began in 2017 when our founder Anna Baird watched a program on the ABC titled ‘War on Waste’, presented by comedian Craig Reucassel.
In 2017, Australians were consuming 50,000 coffees every 30 minutes. To demonstrate what this number looked like, Reucassel filled a Melbourne tram with 50,000 coffee cups.
Seeing this was an eye-opening moment for Anna - up until that point, she had believed that her disposable paper cup was recyclable. Anna was shocked at how naive she had been and made it her mission to start questioning the little things.
The week the program aired, we implemented a policy that Bared would pay for our team members to have a coffee a day if they used a reusable cup.
Six years on, we still offer this, and our team would not be caught dead with a disposable coffee cup.
