Meet Our Weaving Factory

10/27/2022

Black Weaving

All our woven shoes are individually handcrafted with care and take hours to create.

It all starts with our family-run factory that specialises in weaving. Owned by husband, Liu and wife, He, the couple started the factory over 18 years ago and they are the best in the biz.

(We're absolutely not biased.)

Meet He

Meet He, she has worked as a weaver for nearly 20 years. She enjoys weaving different angles as it is the most challenging. Our Heron Tan Sandals are her favourite style; we’ve had them for years and she can weave them in record timing.

With years of experience in the business, the process of weaving our shoes is a lengthy task and requires an entire team.

Let’s find out where it starts.

Meet Liu

The process begins by cutting leather strips.

Meet Liu, he is in charge of cutting our leather into even strips. To reduce as much waste as possible, the process requires attention to detail to ensure most of the leather is utilised.

The Heron Tan Sandal is Liu’s favourite style, too.

Leather Gluing

The strips are glued together.

Meet Chen, she has worked in the factory for six years and is responsible for gluing the leather strips. Each strip is individually glued to increase the length and improve the durability of the leather, then secured using a hot press technique.

This process requires extra care as the strip will easily detach if the leather isn’t glued properly. When Chen isn’t weaving, she likes square dancing.

Leather Thinning

The leather strips are thinned.

Meet Xiong, he is responsible for thinning the leather. This process makes it easier to weave and requires attention to detail as the leather can break. In Xiong’s free time, he likes socialising with his friends.

Leather Weaving

Now, it’s time to weave!

Finally, the leather is ready for weaving. A process that requires curving the leather to follow the shape of the shoe and detailed finishings.

The time it takes to weave varies from style to style, the Junco flat takes around 75 minutes while the Heron takes 60 minutes.

Wang has worked in the factory for five years, she enjoys three-strand weaving which includes our Jaeger 2 Tan Sandals and Toucan Ecru Heels.

Xia has worked in the factory for four years and his wife taught him everything he knows! Xia's favourite style is the Argus Tan Flat.

We feel incredibly lucky to have such a talented team, if you haven't tried them yet, this is your sign to try our woven shoes.
