WHAT:
Leather is a natural material renowned for its strength, flexibility and resilience. The durability of leather ensures it can last for years, making it a valuable investment for those seeking long-lasting quality.
WHY:
We’re an official Leather Working Group (LWG) member and purchase 100% of our leathers from LWG-certified suppliers. Our leather products support responsible manufacturing via the Leather Working Group. We partnered with LWG in 2019 to reduce the environmental impact of leather production and work with our suppliers to source leather from LWG-rated tanneries. These tanneries must adhere to a strict protocol, focusing on energy and water usage, waste management, the control of chemicals and more.
Tanneries repurpose millions of animal hides, stopping them from being discarded into landfills or burned.
VEGETABLE TANNED LEATHER:
Vegetable tanning is the oldest form of leather processing - harnessing natural tannins to finish leathers and create a durable, natural-looking leather which brings out the natural patina and textures of the hide. These qualities make it the ideal leather for our men’s footwear range - in fact majority of our men’s shoes are made from vegetable tanned leather uppers, linings, and soles.
Whilst we do love vegetable tanned leather, it cannot achieve the vibrant colours and finishes that our community loves - therefore majority of our women’s range are not made from vegetable tanned leather. Our Product and Sustainability teams are working hard to source leathers that are tanned with new and innovative methods, whilst achieving the brightness that the Bared community love.
USED IN:
