Materials form the literal foundations of what we do here at Bared. We recognise that the selection of our materials is a key opportunity to influence our sustainability journey.
And it's not just the outside that matters. Shoes require many individual components inside to ensure comfort and structural integrity. This means we have a lot of careful decisions to make. From the outer sole to the upper, we're constantly looking for and investing in exciting new material innovations.

B.plantfoam™→
We've launched our super comfy B.plantfoam™ footbeds across our range. Crafted from 72% plant-based materials, the production of B.Plantfoam™ footbeds produce 70% less CO2 emissions than traditional plastic footbeds.

Leather →
We source responsible leathers from around the world and are a member of the Leather Working Group. 100% of our leather is sourced from LWG Rated Tanneries, certifying impact reduction.

Natural Rubber Blend →
We strive to incorporate the highest percentage of naturally derived rubber as we can at Bared. We have achieved a 60% natural rubber blend. Follow our journey as we aim to for 100% biobased outsoles across our range.

Plastics →
Plastic is used for many structural components of footwear due to its strength and durability. Where possible, we use GRS-certified recycled plastics. We’re currently investing in innovators who are searching for ground-breaking biobased alternative polymers and have some exciting projects on the way.

Cotton →
Cotton is a natural fibre that we use in shoe uppers, linings, footbed top sheets and laces. Whenever possible, we opt to use cottons certified by the Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS), and the Global Recycled Standard (GRS).

Hemp →
It grows faster, requires less water and fertiliser, and leaves soil more nutrient rich than comparable crops. Hemp has been our hero fibre - making up the largest part of the fibre blend we use for our shoe bags.

Sugarcane EVA →
Life is sweeter here at Bared thanks to Sugarcane - a fast growing crop that relies primarily on rainwater. Find out why we're using sugarcane EVA in some of our midsoles.

Wood Pulp →
What's inside matters to us too. Although you can't see it, we choose to make the insoles inside your shoes from a fibre blend made from recycled wood pulp fibres and binding agents.

Hardware →
We carefully source and select hardware crafted from durable materials to ensure the longevity of your shoes. Learn more about the materials we're choosing for hardware at Bared.

Recycled Lasts →
A last is the solid form that each shoe is moulded around. Traditionally they are made from virgin materials, but ours are 100% recycled polyethylene to divert plastics from landfill.

Packaging →
At Bared, the impact of our packaging isn't an afterthought. From biodegradable sticky tape to plastic free mould paks - each component has been carefully selected to reduce our contributions to landfill.
