2020: A Year In Review

For what seemed like the longest, shortest year, 2020 definitely threw a few curveballs. We took it in our stride and did our best to give back, helping those in need and changing our habits to look after our planet.

Reducing our carbon footprint
$50,000 donatedto Greenfleet
We partnered with Greenfleet and committed $50,000 to plant thousands of native trees and offset more than 3,300 tonnes of carbon.

Recycled plastic bottles
By using GRS-certified rPet in our sneaker laces and mesh fabrics,we’ve prevented 23,680 plastic bottles (and counting!) from entering our ocean.

Donated to The Hunger Project
As our long-standing partnership with The Hunger Project (THP) continues, the ‘Hornbill THP’ sneaker was born! $50 for every sneaker sold is donated to empowering the communities of Malawi to sustainably end their own hunger.

RECYCLED SHOES
We’re on a mission to ensure none of our shoes reach landfill. We teamed up with Save Our Soles to turn all our pre-loved shoes into rubber mats, and you helped us recycle 2,450 shoes.

Donated to Children's Ground
We teamed up with Indigenous contemporary artist, Christinaray Weetra, to create the 'Noddy Weetra Dot' sneaker. $50 for every sneaker sold was donated to empowering First Nations children and families.

Eco tape, shoe boxes, hemp & eco-viscose bags, compostable satchels
We’ve made big changes to the way we deliver your shoes. All our postage bags are now compostable, and all deliveries sent through Australia Post are carbon neutral. Every shoe is protected in its own reusable drawstring bag, now crafted from 100% hemp or eco-viscose. Every Bared box is FSC certified, our moisture control packs are 100% natural, plastic-free and biodegradable, and we strictly use landfill-biodegradable packing tape across the business.

Sugarcane Footbeds
Good for you, good for our planet - this footbed is made from (seriously sustainable!) sugarcane.
Sourced from Brazil, this fully renewable resource grows quickly, relies on rainwater to thrive(not irrigation) and removescarbon from the atmosphere inthe process.
LEATHER WORKING GROUP
Gold Rated Leather
We became an official Leather Working Group (LWG) member, strictly using Gold Rated leather in all our top-grain leather shoes.
LWG ensures the leather is not only a sub-product of the meat industry but also sourced and produced with high environmental compliance and ethical practices.
$15,000 donatedto Salvation Army Bushfire Appeal
A disaster that shook the entire world, Australia’s 2020 bushfires burnt an estimated 16.9 million hectares, destroying over 3,344 homes. Like all Australians, we felt completely helpless watching our amazing country burn. To help, we donated $15,000 to the Salvation Army Disaster Relief.

As a growing company, we’re incredibly conscious about the waste we create and make it our mission to be the solution, not part of the problem. In 2021, we’re transforming our leather off-cuts into dog collars!
