The Hunger Project

A global leader in creating a world without hunger, The Hunger Project Australia believes in building resilience, not reliance.

The Hunger Project (THP) is one of the top world hunger charity organisations who help to empower women and children globally. They address the overarching factors that cause hunger and poverty – such as gender inequality, climate change and conflict – to ensure success and sustainability.

THP x Bared

Our partnership with The Hunger Project Australia began in 2019.

Together, we’ve donated more than $1 Million to this organisation (and counting!).

We supporting THP through many different avenues.
100% of proceeds from our socks are donated directly to The Hunger Project Australia to support their incredible mission to end world hunger.

This means that everything you’re spending on these products will go directly to this brilliant organisation.

We also offer a Limited Edition THP Carib Sneaker where $50 from each sneaker goes directly to The Hunger Project Australia and our sponsored communities in Malawi - Majete 7 and Majete 8.

Our journey so far

Communities we’ve supported:

Adonkwanta Epicentre, Ghana:

The epicentre was first established in 2003, allowing community members to gain access to workshops and training programs. With the opportunity and support provided by THP and its generous investors, the Adonkwanta community achieved self-reliance in 2022.

Nsondole Epicentre, Malawi:

The Nsondole Epicentre was first established in 2003. It now includes a total of 29 villages and reaches 23,248 people. With access to clean water, education, and other fundamental skills provided by the epicentre programs, the community began to thrive. In 2022, the Nsondole community proudly reached self-reliance.

Majete 7 & 8 Epicentre, Malawi:

Our current communities. The epi-centre strategy mobilises clusters of rural villages into “epicenters,” which band communities together to carry out community-led integrated strategies. We currently sponsor two epicentres called Majete 7 and Majete 8 - both are based in Malawi.

Both these Epicentres are in early Phase 2 – Construction & Program Implementation. This phase began in 2023 and we are making significant strides toward self-reliance.

The communities around the Majete Wildlife Reserve have shown remarkable resilience and leadership in driving their own development. Our collective continued support has been vital in empowering these communities to build a future free from hunger and poverty.

- Philippe Magid / CEO, The Hunger Project Australia

“Twenty-three years ago, I joined The Hunger Project. I was born into poverty, but my life was rich with love and a belief that I could build a new path for my life – and for others after me.

Today, I stand before you as President and CEO of The Hunger Project, where my journey and our shared vision for a hunger-free world are intertwined.

My story begins with my mother's determination. In labour with me, she walked 17 kilometres to reach a health clinic. This journey was her first investment in my future. Years later, when I was sent away from school for lacking proper black shoes, it wasn't just about what was on my feet – it was about dignity, belonging, and opportunity.

I see my younger self in every community partner we serve.

When I hear of a mother walking far for clean water, I remember my own mother's journey. When I see a child missing school because basic needs aren't met, I remember being turned away for lack of black shoes. These aren't just stories – they are the living reality for hundreds of millions of people.

But my story didn't end there, and neither will theirs.”

- Rowlands Kaotcha / CEO and President of The Hunger Project
