We Planted Trees With Greenfleet

We take climate action with our longstanding partner, Greenfleet in an effort to reduce the emissions we produce for the shoes you love. Last week, the environmental non-profit organisation asked us to get our hands dirty.

Greenfleet is an Australian organisation that plants biodiverse native forests that are protected for up to 100 years. Biodiverse native forests capture carbon emissions to help protect our climate, improve soil and water quality and provide habitat for native wildlife.

Since 2020, we have supported their journey by committing $95,000 to offset over 5,380 carbon emissions, though it was time for us to get in on the action. Greenfleet invited us to take part in their regeneration project in Glendalough, Victoria. Located on the lands of the Boon Wurrung Country, we traded in the office environment for the rolling hills of South Gippsland.

From a Smoking Ceremony to digging holes, we got out of the city to learn the importance of restoring and protecting biodiverse forests.

Tree Planting Day

What Went On

Where they can, Greenfleet works closely with Traditional Owners to restore Country. Their expert Revegetation Team ensures the forests planted will enrich the ecosystems and help native wildlife thrive. We learnt about the land we were planting on and why it’s so important to regenerate the land with native plants.

The day started with a Welcome to Country from Willie Pepper, on behalf of Boon Wurrung Land and Sea Council. Willie also involved us in a traditional Smoking Ceremony by burning native leaves to establish a connection with the land. An incredible way to honour Country and its deep connection to indigenous heritage. A highlight for the entire team and a really special way to begin the day.

Next up, we were shown how to plant a tree by Greenfleet’s Revegetation Team. They used a planter tool (A.K.A a pottiputki!) to ergonomically and efficiently plant seedlings across the Glendalough property and we enjoyed every muddy moment.

As a working farm, this project demonstrates how climate action and sustainable agricultural practices can go hand in hand, with half the property returned to a legally protected native forest while other parts will continue to be regeneratively farmed.

Rain Boots Like No Other

Decked out in our brand new rain boot, the team were ready to take on the terrain and plant some trees. The perfect wet weather boot, the Wader Rain Boots are made for deep puddles and muddy slopes.

Crafted from a blend of 50% natural rubber and fitted with Global Recycled Standard-certified neoprene gussets, our super comfy B.plantfoam™ footbed made the whole experience that much comfier. We had an absolute ball taking Wader for a spin while getting our tree planting on.

How You Can Help

Not everyone is able to plant trees and it’s always best to leave it to the experts, but there are other ways to get involved and reduce your impact on the environment.

You can offset your carbon emissions with Greenfleet’s CarbonCover 365 program and we’ll reward you for it. With a once-off yearly payment, you’ll be covered for 20.3 tonnes of carbon, the average amount of carbon each person in Australia emits each year.

Send us a copy of your receipt and we’ll give you a $65 gift voucher to use on your next full-price purchase.

We understand that on its own, carbon offsetting doesn’t prevent global warming, but has a large part to play in the overall approach to carbon management. Making lifestyle changes is another great way to help protect our planet, you can take action at home and in the workplace as each small change makes a big difference to the earth.

From turning off lights to reducing plastic use, we put together Top 10 Easy Tips to help get you started.
