Greenfleet is an Australian not-for-profit organisation that plants biodiverse native forests that are legally protected for 100 years. Since 1997 they have planted over 10.5 million native trees across more than 550 biodiverse forests in Australia and New Zealand. These forests capture carbon emissions to help protect our climate, improve soil and water quality, and provide habitat for native wildlife.
We understand that carbon offsets are not the answer to the environmental crisis we face, and we aim to reduce our emissions as much as possible. During the manufacturing and distribution of our shoes, there are some emissions we cannot avoid. That’s where Greenfleet comes in.
Greenfleet rejects the carbon credit approach, wherein a brand offsets their emissions by purchasing credits from already completed carbon projects. In this approach, the completed project is audited, and a number of credits are produced as tradeable assets.
These credits can vary greatly in quality and impact – for example, many carbon credits rely on calculations of 'avoided' carbon, such as ‘avoided deforestation’, which measures the carbon saved by not cutting down an existing forest.
Instead, Greenfleet uses funds donated to undertake reforestation projects, planting native trees that remove carbon as they grow, while also restoring the ecosystem and mitigating biodiversity loss.
Our partnership has enabled the regeneration of biodiverse forests across Australia and New Zealand. However, it's clear that we have to do more, and we're counting on your support.
